Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the compressive strength of the Flemish bonded red masonry, the effect of plastering on the walls, and the elements forming the strength of the walls, and to obtain the volume weight of the walls as dead load data in structural design. The research was conducted using an experimental method. The wall test object is made of 4 layers of bricks to the top and 2 bricks to the side with dimensions of 40 cm x 8 cm x 30 cm. Variations of the test specimens were made of walls without plastering, 1-sided plastering and 2-sided plastering. The research process begins with preparing tools and materials, determining the mortar used and plastering, and making the wall test object. Wall testing refers to SNI 03-4164-1996. The results of the compressive strength of wall pairs without plastering, 1-sided plastering and 2-sided plastering were 3,248 MPa, 5,016 MPa, and 9,034 MPa, respectively. The weakest strength element in the wall lies between the bonding of the brick surface with the mortar. The effect of plastering increases compressive strength up to 80,10% compared to walls without plastering. The volume weight of the wall without plaster is 2067.969 kg/m³ which exceeds the standard of 1700 kg/m3. So that the dead load in the structural design for the Flemish bonded brick wall needs to be adjusted to the actual value.
